Yarmouth Pest Control
Over 14 million American households saw pests within the last 12 months, and many of these pests wreak havoc within the household regularly. Roaches and mice pose serious health concerns, while wasps and flying pests burrow into the woodwork and pose a stinging threat.
Fortunately, we at Green Pest Defense offer three tiers of pest control that range in coverage. Offering both residential and commercial treatments, we tailor to residential pest control needs based on your unique circumstances and infestation. No matter the pest problem, we have the solution.
Yarmouth Rodent Control
There are three types of mice in Maine: the house, Deer, and white-footed mouse.
Each ranges from approximately five to nine inches. They can carry several harmful diseases like leptospirosis, dysentery, lymphocytic choriomeningitis. Deer and white-footed mice carry hantavirus, which can affect the lungs. Mice can be hosts to parasites such as ticks and fleas; white-footed mice can carry Lyme disease.
Mice can cause damage to the electrical wiring in houses as well, which poses a potential fire hazard. They like to chew on wood and other hard surfaces, damaging the structural integrity of a building. Mouse urine and fecal matter can contaminate insulation.
Evidence of an infestation includes droppings and rub marks.
There are several ways to combat an infestation:
- Seal foundation cracks.
- Put a close-fitting cap on all chimneys. Inspect chimneys for loose/missing shingles.
- Caulk small gaps around doors/windows.
- Trim back trees/shrubs from around the home.
- Keep tight-fitting lids on all outdoor trash cans and place them away from the house.
- Store food in sealed airtight containers. Do not leave open food out on the counter.
- Clean up spills and crumbs quickly and wash dishes regularly.
- Reduce overly cluttered areas and take out any garbage from the home.
Norway rats, also known as brown or sewer rats, measure approximately 16 inches in length and weigh up to a pound; they have brownish-gray fur, bulging eyes, and small ears. They can carry several diseases like jaundice, plague, rat-bite fever, and salmonellosis.
Rats gnaw and chew, leading to structural damage; they like to chew on drywall, wires, and pipes. Since Norway rats burrow, they can cause issues to foundations as well. In addition, their feces and urine can contaminate as well.
There are ways to prevent an infestation:
- Do not store firewood near/against the house.
- Seal any opening on the exterior of the structure.
- Implement a housekeeping plan.
- Organize storage to eliminate nesting sites.
- Remove food sources such as open trash cans or pet food.
- Use durable trash cans and do not overfill them.
Green Pest Defense offers a comprehensive pest control option for rodent infestations.
The preliminary service visit may include:
- Inspection/evaluation of the property.
- Installation of monitoring devices.
- Installation of bait.
- Sealing of obvious access points.
- Additional measures, depending on the tier chosen.
Yarmouth Wasp Control
There are three main species of wasps in Maine: yellow jacket, paper wasp, and hornet.
The yellow jacket is the largest species found in Maine and grows between 3/8th-5/8th inches. They have distinct black and yellow bands on their bodies, six legs, antennae, and when at rest, their wings are folded lengthwise on their bodies.
The paper wasp grows between ⅝-¾ inches. They are usually brown but may have yellow/red markings. They have antennae, six legs, and a pinched waist.
The hornet is the most common species in Maine and grows up to ¾ inch. Queens are slightly larger. They are predominantly black with a white pattern on their face.
Although they don’t carry any diseases, wasps can inflict a painful sting when threatened. This sting can cause painful swelling and itching. However, some people experience life-threatening symptoms.
The preliminary service visit may include:
- Inspection/evaluation of the property.
- Knockdown of exterior egg sacs and nests.
- Installation of monitoring devices.
- Exterior barrier treatment.
- Exterior residual treatment of access points.
- Sealing of obvious access points
- Additional control measures, depending on the tier chosen.
